I recently stayed at this resort and can say it was Excellent!  The grounds are not too big, once you get your bearings.  It is an adults only resort. Let me divide the review into categories:

Lobby

The lobby is a very relaxing place to hang out and have a drink.  The marble bars and counters light up at night, making it great for day or evening relaxing.

Rooms

The rooms at this resort are beautiful.  Lots of white and gold linens/pillows, flat screen tvs, mini bar, free wireless internet, patio/balcony with chairs and bed, wrap around couch, laptop size safe, jacuzzi in room with patio access.  The floor is tile, so it can get slippery.

Room service is available 24 hours a day and they offer some great choices - chicken quesadillas, club sandwiches, Hawaiian pizza, etc.  No matter what time of day (or night) you ordered the staff was fast, pleasant, and the food was the appropriate temperature.

Restaurants

Here are reviews of the ones at which I ate:

Chez Isabelle - French cuisine - elegant, good wines, had filet mignon (delicious!)

Spice - Oriental - tepannyaki table, with saki and sushi.  Show cooking - did a volcano with onion rings which actually lit and exploded!

Lobster House - ocean view, lobster made to order.  Delicious kabobs

Beach/Pools

The beach is white, soft and cool.  The water is a beautiful blue/green.  The pools were a perfect temperature with a pool bar on hand and waiter service.  There were plenty of rafts in the pool and the best part - hammocks over the pools!!

Disco/Shows

The disco was on the small side and had a bar and DJ.  It was not very crowded.  The shows I think got a better response than the disco.  The shows were of high quality with elaborate costumes and choreography.  They did shows with themes from all over the world - Brazil, Cuba, etc.

This resort is great for honeymooners/anniversaries - nice amenities for these.  It is also great for couples and even singles wanting an upscale getaway.  Being there without my significant other, I did not feel out of place.  I would recommend this resort to everyone.

One thing I forgot to mention is the Spa at Excellence Playa Mujeres.  In your room you will find coupons for various spa treatments.  I did the Hydrotherapy Session with 15+ stations and then a deep tissue massage.  WOW.  The hydrotherapy includes steam room, sauna, hot and cold plunge pools, high pressure faucets, jets, and then a cool drink at the end.  The massage following was a deep tissue, but there are different kinds you can get.  I was so relaxed I fell asleep!  The aromas and the music, just lulls you away.
